چکیده

Provision of copepod nauplii as food increases larval survival in many fish species that are difficult to rear using standard practices. Gladioferens imparipes is a temperate estuarine calanoid copepod with culture potential. Diets were tested to determine which would maximise copepod production. Copepods were fed five diets: Isochrysis galbana, Chaetoceros muelleri, Dunaliella tertiolecta, Nannochloropsis oculata and baker’s yeast. Copepod survival, time to maturity, maturation rate, nauplius production and female length were recorded at 208C and 258C. By most criteria, Isochrysis was the most efficacious diet, followed by Chaetoceros and then Dunaliella. Nannochloropsis and yeast resulted in little or no survival. Fatty acid profile of each diet was determined. In general, copepod production was positively related to the ratio of DHA:EPA in their diet. Poor survival on Nannochloropsis was probably a result of the small cell size and poor digestibility of this species. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Study on population growth and production of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani fed on different diets

In this study the effects of different algal and nonalgal diets on density and population growth rate of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani were studied. To this intention, the copepod were mass cultured in 120 liter tanks by feeding on different diets (5 treatments, 3 replicate in each one) including fresh composition of microalgae: Scenedesmus obliquus and Spirulina maxima (LSS), dried ...

Intensive Cultivation of the Calanoid Copepod Oithona Rigida for Mariculture Purpose

The cyclopoida copepod Oithona rigida has good potential for mass culture as a live feed. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of salinity on density of O.rigida four ranges with 15, 25, 35 and 45 ‰ and mass cultured under four salinity levels (15,25,35,and 45 ‰) in 5 L fiberglass tanks over 19 days culture period. However, it is better to be cultured at salinity of 35 ‰ for ma...

Diet of Mysis diluviana reveals seasonal patterns of omnivory and consumption of invasive species in offshore Lake Michigan

Recent changes in Lake Michigan’s lower trophic levels were hypothesized to have influenced the diet of omnivorous Mysis diluviana. In this study, the stomach contents of Mysis were examined from juvenile and adults collected monthly (April–October) from a 110-m bottom depth site to describe their seasonal diet in Lake Michigan during 2010. Diatoms were the most common prey item ingested, follo...

Spatial and temporal variation in the diet of the Pacific sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus in waters off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Variation in the diet of the Pacific sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus was examined in three years (2009-2011) at four sites in British Columbia, Canada. There were 12 major taxa of prey in diets, eight of which were Crustacea, with copepods being by far the dominant taxon in all 12 site-years. Of the 22 copepod taxa recorded, only Calanus marshallae and Pseudocalanus spp. occurred in all collect...
